Admittedly, no. But, we are moving there!
Quickly, I started to do some reading, and here are some facts to get you familiar as well…
- It’s the capital of Victoria, one of the six Australian states.
- It was the capital of Australia from 1901 to 1927 before being located in Canberra.
- It’s Australia’s second largest city and has a population of 4.1 million.
- In 2015 (and several years prior), it was ranked the world’s most livable city.
- It’s known for its unpredictable weather and often is referred to having “four seasons in one day”.
- It has four seasons, and the highest recorded temperature was in 2009 at 114.5F and a minimum of 27F in 1901. The average winter temps range from 40-60F. I think I can get used to that!
- It’s Australia’s unofficial sporting capital with being the only city in the world to have five international sporting facilities hosting events such as the Australian Open.
- The famous beer Fosters Lager was first brewed in Melbourne by two American brothers.
- Until 1966, all pubs closed by 6pm.
- Yes, they drive on the “wrong” side of the road! Yikes!
- During daylight saving time, the time change is 14 hours difference and when it ends, it is 16 hours difference. (Because our spring is their fall so when we spring forward an hour, they fall back an hour so it makes for 2 hours difference.)
We’ll be sure to keep you posted as we learn more about the city!
