Even though Brent says it’s made up, I still like Valentine’s Day. And since it doesn’t seem like the season for Valentine’s Day (it was sunny and in the 70s today), I didn’t put much thought into it. Plus Brent had been away for over a week, so I was focused on keeping things fairly simple!
However, yesterday, I realized that perhaps I needed to have Valentine’s for Isla’s class. No one had mentioned it. I happened to be in the grocery store and thought I’d just pick up some, but it was interesting to see that there was only a section of about 20 cards and a few rolls of wrapping paper. No wonder I didn’t think too much about Valentine’s day… It isn’t celebrated (or over celebrated) as much as we do holidays in America. They didn’t have any children cards, so I decided that I’d cross my fingers and hope that Isla wasn’t the only child not to give them out…
And then later that afternoon, it dawned on me that perhaps we should acknowledge Valentine’s Day for Brent. {Primarily to poke fun at his stance on the “fake holiday”.} Since he is away this week again, I had a little time to come up with something. So, with some help from Pinterest, I found this idea. Not the best photography, but the best we could do with hungry kids before I needed to make dinner. {Greyson had to be bribed with bread, of course.}
Here they are blowing kisses to you from the southern hemisphere….
Isla decided she would cut out and color hearts for her teachers and tell everyone at school that she loved them. When we arrived this morning at school, no one handed out cards. Isla did give her teachers their hearts, so I asked her teacher if they celebrated it with the children, and she confirmed that it isn’t as popular as in America. However, Isla did make a card for us today at school.
And for not being a believer, Brent sure did like his photos. 🙂
Wishing you all a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Such a “loving” idea. I can only imagine that the pictures melted Brent’s heart….and he will think of Valentine’s Day differently. Kudos to you Jill…. Happy Valentine’s Day.
Ps. Perhaps Brent will arrive home with a Valentine Day card for his lovely wife! Love, Aunt Judy

What a lovely Valentine for him. Much better than a bought card from the kiddos. Love reading your writings about your life in Australia.
