On Thursday, September 1st, we get to welcome the first day of spring! There have been a few warmer days, and a daffodil sprouted in the yard this past week, so it’s on its way.
I didn’t think much about it when we were here on March 1st, and we were told it was the first day of fall. Last week, one of Isla’s teacher said, “Only 9 days until spring!”. So, I confirmed with her that it was on September 1st, which she said it was. I asked her why it is on the 1st, rather than on (or around) the 21st. She didn’t know and also didn’t realize that the U.S. seasons change around the 21st rather than the 1st.
So, onto to Google it was… It appears to be a matter of convenience that the Australians change seasons on the first of the month. September 1st is spring, December 1st is summer, March 1st is fall and June 1st is winter. They do not use the astronomical calendar like the Americans do changing during the equinoxes and solstices.
Spring can’t come soon enough though, so I’ll take it being on the 1st. Fortunately, yesterday, it was really nice, so I had some time to take a walk on the beach and snap some pictures while the kids were in school. More for my practice, but here you go…
I walked down to check out the Brighton Beach Boxes, which I had only seen from a distance. I’m still baffled that people have paid, most recently, $285,000 to purchase one.
Oh, and a few nice days in the yard, I tried to follow Greyson with the camera….It was a lot of action from kicking the ball, playing cars, hide and seek, playing with and feeding the giraffe and more…
Before you know it, we will probably be complaining that it’s too hot!

What are the Brighton Beach boxes used for? How confusing to have your seasons turn around but nice to have spring coming tomorrow.
Will Greyson be trying out for the soccer team soon? He looks pretty good kicking that ball.

I think they are basically used as a place to store beach items and hang out in when their family go to the beach. I’ll confirm that once the weather is nicer! 🙂
It will be interesting to see what Greyson ends up doing- he’s quite an interesting character! Doesn’t stop talking- his voice is hoarse!

Great pictures Jill. Flowers came out well but the “plumber’s butt” is the best!

Couldn’t resist posting it….
